#WhyILoveMuseums Day…really?

Today is the official #WhyILoveMuseums day on twitter, proclaimed by www.culturethemes.com.   How does it work? Well, you write a short statement telling why you love museums, you add the hashtag (#WhyILoveMuseums) and tag the museum you want.  Doesn’t seem like a topic that could generate much debate, only love tweets to the institutions.

I suppose this museum love holiday is much needed at this time when the reputation of a lot of them has been affected by accusations of conflicts of interest, as in the case of the New Museum and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, human rights violations,as in the case of the Guggenheim in Abu Dhabi and censorship as in the case of  The National Portrait Gallery and the LAMOCA.

Today, almost every museum have invited their followers to participate in the twitter holiday, so they will be paying some attention to the the reactions.  As you can see on the chart above from litot-es the topic is trending at a rate of 300 mentions per hour, so this is our proposal to you, if there is something that bothers you from any museum, regional or global, or if there is something that bothers you from the idea of museum institutions in general, try your sarcasm and use the hashtag.  There’s no love without debate.

Here’s and example:
